Rangers have been linked with a move for Leicester City ace Stephy Mavididi this summer as Derek McInnes eyes additional attacking reinforcements.

Reports have indicated that the Gers are exploring a deal for the 28-year-old left-winger in the coming weeks.

The former Arsenal academy graduate was unable to prevent the Foxes’ relegation to League One last season as he netted just three times in the second tier.

However, he was previously a huge hit in Ligue 1 and earned praise from Premier League legend Thierry Henry.

Between 2020 and 2023, he played for Montpellier and proved to be a menace in front of goal.

If Rangers are able to seal the deal, the Leicester player would become the club’s seventh signing of the summer.

Thierry Henry: Stephy Mavididi is always in the right place

Mavididi was once seen as one of the best upcoming youngsters in football.

After progressing through Arsenal’s academy, he made the move to Juventus in 2018, but failed to break into the first team.

However, it was at Montpellier where he showed his quality, as he netted 21 goals in 98 matches at the French club.

Back in December 2021, Henry was quick to praise the winger’s form when commenting on a game for broadcaster Amazon.

The Score on 27 January 2022 reported that he said: "What I've always liked about Stephy Mavididi is that he's a hard-working player who closes (opponents) down.

"He's always in the right place. What was missing was finishing — whether to give the ball or to score — but now he's brought that to his game."

Therefore, this will give many Rangers fans hope that Mavididi can be a success at Ibrox if Mark Hendry’s Substack report is correct and a deal is eventually struck.

How good is Mavididi now?

Unfortunately, Mavididi’s form crashed in the 2025-26 campaign as Leicester were relegated to League One.

Like many of Leicester’s players, he was unable to put together a consistent run of games, and this is shown in his stats.

According to Fotmob on 14 July, per 90 minutes, he was averaging 0.10 goals, a 0.17 xG, 2.05 shots, 0.03 assists, a 0.08 xA, 1.65 successful dribbles and 4.51 touches in the opposition box.

However, Rangers and McInnes will be hoping that this is just a one-off poor season, and he can bounce back quickly.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Gers are able to get a deal over the line.
