Sources: Aris 'doing everything' to sign Rangers star John Souttar before deadline

Aris Thessaloniki are "doing everything they can" to keep their deal to sign Rangers centre-back John Souttar "alive," sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old has already agreed a deal to join the Greek giants, but a dispute regarding his contract situation at Ibrox has put the move on the verge of collapse.

Aris are still hopeful that the deal could get done, but they now face a race against time, with their transfer window set to close at 10pm on Tuesday.

Rangers are "more than happy" for Souttar to leave the club, but sources say that unless a compromise can be reached regarding his compensation payment, then he will be forced to stay put.

The defender is out of contract in Glasgow next summer, and is arguing that he is entitled to be paid for the final year of his deal, something Rangers are extremely reluctant to agree to.

The Scotland international has already been frozen out of Derek McInnes' plans, and is running out of time to secure a move away before January.

John Souttar's Rangers future 'in limbo'

Rangers have been working to find a solution for Souttar in recent weeks, but at this stage, their options are extremely limited in terms of moving him out of the door.

The transfer windows in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia have both now closed, with the Greek window one of the few in Europe that still remains open.

However, with less than 48 hours to go, there is now a renewed sense of urgency if Souttar is to move and join Aris.

Rangers haven't budged so far in their stance that the veteran will not be getting the pay-off that he wants, but if that doesn't change, then they will be left paying his wages for a few more months at least.

Souttar is keen to get away from Ibrox and play regular football elsewhere, but Aris now represents the final realistic chance for him to move before January.

If the two parties cannot reach an agreement ahead of the Greek deadline, then the player will be left out in the cold at Ibrox.

Rangers block exit after Lawrence Shankland update

Football Insider revealed last weekend that Rangers are set to stand in the way of any potential exit for Bojan Miovski during the January transfer window.

The Gers' striking options are limited at the moment, with Lawrence Shankland facing a four-month lay-off, and Youssef Chermiti out with a long-term injury.

As a result, Miovski is set to be called upon to provide cover at the top of the pitch, rather than the club looking to ship him out.

The North Macedonian scored a stoppage-time winner against St Mirren recently, and is expected to take on an increased role in the coming weeks.
