Sources: Rangers explore Rayan Fofana deal as late signing spree accelerates

Rangers are weighing up a move to sign Lens striker Rayan Fofana on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order with the Ligue 1 side, and it is understood that a season-long loan could "work for all parties."

Rangers are in the market for a new striker after Youssef Chermiti's injury, but would prefer a loan rather than shelling out on a permanent addition.

Sources have indicated that the Gers feel that a move for Fofana would leave them with more money to spend on additions elsewhere in the squad.

Derek McInnes has voiced his desire to see more new faces come through the door of late, and he is set to get his way before the 3 September deadline.

Fofana scored five times in 25 appearances in Ligue 1 last term, and could be about to head to Ibrox to provide cover at th top of the pitch.

Rangers not keen on permanent Youssef Chermiti replacement

Chermiti's ACL injury has provided a major blow to Rangers' campaign, as they were hoping for a big season from him in front of goal.

The Portuguese is among the Gers' biggest assets at the moment, and they rejected a £22million bid for him just days before he picked up his injury.

The 22-year-old is a big loss for McInnes and Co., but such is his importance to their long-term project, that they are not keen to replace him with a permanent addition.

They still have the trio of Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski within their ranks, who can all provide quality when needed.

Rangers want to add a fourth option to lead the line, but are keen to ensure that it is someone who compliments their current options.

Fofana could provide them with that, without the need for a big commitment on a fee and contract.

Rangers' chances of Vaclav Cerny swoop revealed

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Rangers will find it difficult to re-sign their former loanee Vaclav Cerny ahead of the deadline.

Besiktas have no intention of lowering their £8m valuation for the winger, whose wages are also providing signficant issues for Rangers.

They have held talks with Besiktas over a deal in recent days, but feel that the full package for Cerny would be a "big stretch" on their budget.

Rangers have been linked with a return move for their former fans' favourite throughout the summer, but it ultimately looks as though it will pass them by.
