Sources: Rangers in talks to sign Vanja Dragojevic as price to get deal done revealed
Rangers remain locked in “ongoing” talks to try to sign Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic, sources have told Football Insider.
The Light Blues are understood to hold a “big interest” in the midfielder, 20, and are still working to try to prise him away from the Serbian giants this summer.
Partizan knocked away Rangers’ first bid of £3.9million, and are holding out for a fee that comes close to the £5m mark for their star man.
Sources say that if Rangers can hit that valuation with their next offer, then it is likely to be enough for Partizan to accept and a deal to take place.
The two clubs are still working to get a fee agreed for the 20-year-old, who has already earned two senior caps for Serbia at international level.
Primarily a holding midfielder by trade, Dragojevic made 41 appearances for Partizan in all competitions last term, scoring four goals and adding three assists.
Why Vanja Dragojevic ‘ticks a lot of boxes’ for Rangers
Derek McInnes is looking to bolster his options in the centre of midfield ahead of next season, and Dragojevic has already been identified as a player who would be a good fit for the project he is building.
The starlet is building a growing reputation for himself, and is firmly on the radar at Ibrox as one of their top targets for the summer window.
Dragojevic is understood to “tick a lot of boxes” for Rangers due to his age and his huge potential to develop, as he is seen as a likely star of the future.
The Rangers recruitment department are working hard to try and get their move for him over the line, as the midfielder is seen as a player who could carry significant resale value in future.
Partizan have been stubborn in their stance over their price tag so far, and that looks unlikely to change unless the Gers are willing to cough up the £5m that they are looking for.
Rangers plan to accept ‘big offer’ for Thelo Aasgaard
Football Insider revealed last week that Rangers could be convinced to sell forward Thelo Aasgaard if they receive a “big offer” for him in the coming weeks.
The 24-year-old has been subject to high-profile interest from across Europe in recent months, with Italian side Atalanta the latest to take an interest in him.
Rangers are reluctant to weaken their squad and lose the Norway international, but could be tempted into a sale if a lucrative offer is put on the table.
Aasgaard managed seven goals and four assists in a difficult debut campaign at Ibrox last term, but there is strong hope that he can have a bigger impact in 2026-27.
