'Really good signing' - Exclusive: Bent reacts to senior figure's Tottenham transfer claim

Darren Bent insists that Giovano Lo Celso would be a “really good signing” for Tottenham if they were to turn his loan move permanent this month.

The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says he has been impressed with what he has seen from the Argentine and says he needs to play even more in north London.

Real Betis president Angel Haro was quoted in December as saying that he expects Tottenham to trigger an optional purchase clause in the midfielder’s loan terms, claiming it would cost the Lilywhites more to buy him in the summer.

Bent says that buying Lo Celso for less now makes sense for his old club but admits he wants to see the 23-year-old given much more game time than he has been so far.

Bent told Football Insider: “I really like Lo Celso but for me they’ve got to play him more. We’ve only seen him in bits and bobs where he’s come off the bench. I like it when he gets on the ball, he makes things happen.

“He looks good on the ball, he’s left-footed. I’d like to see him get more opportunities. In today’s market, for players like that, 30, 40, £50million is the going rate.

“He’s a player who needs to play games, there’s no point in buying someone of his quality to only play him here and there, he needs to play all the time.

“I think he’ll be a really good signing for them.”

Lo Celso has played just 14 times since joining the club over the summer transfer window, a hip injury hampering his availability between September and October.

He has started two Premier League games since Jose Mourinho took charge, lining up against Norwich and Southampton.
