'Really let me down' - Exclusive: Darren Bent savages West Brom ace he was raving over
Darren Bent has ripped into Matheus Pereira for his “play-acting” at West Brom this season.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he feels “let down” by the 24-year-old after his antics both on and off the ball.
The attacking ace scored eight goals and contributed 20 assists for the Baggies on their way to promotion but was also caught diving and over-exaggerating incidents.
He hit the deck after a minor altercation with Huddersfield’s Trevor Chalobah and was left rolling around in apparent agony after a pat on the head from Fulham’s Michael Hector.
Bent has blasted Pereira for his behaviour and admits it has left a bitter taste after a superb season from the forward.
“I really like Pereira but he really let me down in the last few games of the season with his play-acting, his theatrics,” Bent told Football Insider.

“That kind of annoyed me – I thought he was very, very good, brilliant in fact.
“What a weird end to the season – West Brom don’t win any of their last four games of the season and still get promoted, it’s crazy.”
Pereira joined West Brom on an initial loan move from Sporting CP and played 43 times across all competitions.
He is set to see his temporary stay become a permanent one this summer after Slaven Bilic confirmed an obligatory purchase clause earlier this year.
In other West Brom news, Noel Whelan claims the Baggies are set for a “bargain” signing this summer.
