West Ham United have reportedly named Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez their number one target as they endeavour to replace David Moyes in the Hammers hotseat.
But, according to a reliable journalist, there has been no official approach for the Magpies boss as yet.
Lee Ryder, chief sports writer at The Chronicle revealed as much via his official Twitter feed where he stated: “For all the talk of Rafa and West Ham today there has been NO official approach so far.
#nufc still the only team he’s talking to.”

The Guardian claims that the Irons are “seriously” considering paying the £6million it would take in the Spaniard’s contract at St James’ Park to trigger his release clause.
But Ryder’s update would quieten down the rumours for the moment.
Football Insider verdict:
West Ham fans are widely known to have a lack of faith in their board and their ability to splash the cash on quality, but for once, if they could get their hands on someone in the mould of Benitez, or even the man himself, supporters would have very little to complain about. On a shoestring budget, the 58-year-old has managed to get the best from a pretty average bunch of players and performed nothing short of a miracle. £6m is not a lot of money to pay in the Premier League these days, but the thought of the ex-Liverpool boss commanding the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Manuel Lanzini, Andy Carroll and co. is an interesting prospect and you can imagine that he would be a manager those kinds of players would thrive from. It would seem that Benitez is interested in the position, you only have to hope that the Hammers board don’t let an opportunity like this pass them by.
