Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Leeds are in the hunt to sign Hugill this month.
United were one of a number of clubs to be interested in the former Port Vale forward during the summer when he handed in a transfer request at Preston.
The Yorkshire club have continued to keep tabs on the powerhouse striker, known for his strength and aerial ability, and are ready to make a pounce for him this month.
Hugill has made 26 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring 10 goals in the process.
Football Insider verdict
Hugill would be a good addition at Elland Road. He has proven in the past two seasons that he can consistently find the net in the Championship and would fit a similar mould that Chris Wood was in before he left to join Burnley. Preston say that they have no interest in selling the 25-year-old forward, but Alex Neil has already signed another striker in Louis Moult this month from Motherwell, so that may well be in case Hugill leaves. Leeds do need a striker though. The additions in the summer have not been good enough.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are in the running to sign this £8.5million international forward this month.
