Reliable journalist: Mouth-watering new Coutinho bid launched, Liverpool respond immediately

By Harvey Byrne

A fresh bid has been launched for Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, but the club have once more emphatically turned it down, according to a reliable journalist.

The Guardian reported on August 10 that the Reds had rejected a bid worth £90million from Barcelona for the 25-year-old Brazilian as the Catalan giants seek a replacement for Neymar.

Now, just over a week later Times correspondent Paul Joyce has claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that the Spanish side launched a mouth-watering £118million bid for the playmaker, which was immediately rejected by the Merseyside giants.

The claims from Joyce follow a report from Beta Goal that Barcelona were ready to offer a new mega-money bid to Liverpool for Coutinho.

However, it would now appear that the Reds are adamant that they will keep hold of the Brazilian star this summer, who still has five years left on his contract at Anfield.

Football Insider verdict:

At this stage of the window Coutinho is priceless for Liverpool and they should ensure they keep hold of the Brazilian no matter what. Three years a go the Reds experienced how hard it was to replace a top player in Luis Suarez, who also made the switch to Barcelona. Liverpool then decided to spend the money earned off his sale on the likes of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli. Liverpool must now show that they have learned from previous mistakes and reject any bid for Coutinho at all costs.

In other Liverpool transfer news, Reds target Draxler could leave PSG if this happens.
