Reliable journalist gives update as rival club plot move for frozen out Leeds 25-year-old

By Harvey Byrne

Championship rivals Preston are the side chasing Leeds’ frozen out attacker Souleumane Doukara, according to a reliable journalist.

On Wednesday evening Radio Yorkshire and talkSPORT correspondent Mark Wilson claimed on his personal Twitter account that “a Championship club” were plotting a move for the 25-year-old forward.

Now, on Thursday morning in an update the news reporter has named Alex Neil’s Preston as the club who are plotting a move for the Senegalese attacker.

Doukara was a firm favourite under former manager Garry Monk in the last campaign due to his workrate, playing 39 matches in all competitions and returning six goals and four assists.

However, under summer appointment Thomas Christiansen he has been completely frozen out and has so far failed to make a match day squad with one-year left on his contract.

Now, Preston, who earned a 0-0 draw against Leeds last weekend are thought to be searching for more firepower and they could soon present the Whites with an offer.

Football Insider verdict:

For whichever reason Doukara is simply not favoured by Christiansen and with summer attacking signings Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski and Caleb Ekuban he has fallen well down the Leeds pecking order. The Senegalese has also shown during his years at Leeds that while he is open to putting in the effort he is often lacking in quality and with the Yorkshire giants aiming for promotion this season they can’t afford to have players of his ilk. Therefore, the Whites have been left with no option but to accept an offer from Preston given his contract situation at the club and it is thought that Leeds will welcome a bid despite selling to a direct league rival.
