Reliable journalist provides update on Leeds star Wood's contract situation

By Harvey Byrne

Leeds star Chris Wood will wait to see if Burnley launch a third bid for his name before opening contract talks with the Yorkshire giants, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports News reported on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the Whites had offered Wood, 25, a new three-year contract in the wake of a series of bids from Burnley.

However, Thomas Christiansen’s side may have to wait for an answer after Mirror journalist David Anderson claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that Wood will not respond to Leeds’ offer until he sees Burnley’s next move in an update on the situation.

This may come as bad news for the Yorkshire giants’ fan base after Sun correspondent Alan Nixon also claimed via his personal Twitter account on Friday that Burnley are set to make a new move and that the Premier League outfit have not given up on the New Zealand international.

The Wood saga has come at the right time for Leeds given that it’s a World Cup year and the striker won’t risk losing fitness ahead of possibly travelling to Russia with New Zealand. Therefore, even if the powerful forward does not sign a new deal Leeds should still keep hold of him as he has two years remaining on his contract. If the Yorkshire giants are to win promotion then they need a goalscorer like Wood and therefore he is priceless with Premier League money resulting in a lot more than whatever Burnley can offer.

In other Leeds transfer news, this Premier League attacker eyed by the Whites favours a move to Newcastle.
