Reliable journalist delivers Marcus Edwards update that will excite Tottenham fans

By Harvey Byrne

Young Tottenham starlet Marcus Edwards rejected loan moves from both Holland and the Championship as he wants to stay and fight for a breakthrough at Spurs, according to a reliable journalist.

Daily Mail’s football editor Ian Ladyman claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Spurs were looking to loan out the 18-year-old right-winger.

However, in an update after the transfer window closed Guardian football writer David Hytner claimed via his own personal Twitter account that Edwards rejected moves and was focusing on making Mauricio Pochettino’s first team.

This news will of course excite the Tottenham fan base with many having high hopes for Edwards, who is considered one of the brightest prospects that the club have brought through.

The young midfielder has already made his first team debut in a 15 minute cameo off the bench last September in a 5-0 victory over Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

He has not yet added to that single appearance, but Spurs have also tied the seven-time capped England Under-19 international down until 2020 and both the club and players will be hoping he can make the step up again soon.

Football Insider verdict:

It would have made sense for Edwards to go out on loan to a club where he would be guaranteed to play every week. However, Tottenham have also shown that if they believe a player to be ready then they will place them in the first team no matter how old they are. There are very high hopes around Edwards at the moment, but it is felt that if he is to fulfil his potential then he should be becoming a first team regular in the next couple of years, just as Dele Alli and Harry Kane did.
