Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud could be the key to the Gunners securing Borrusia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to a report.
The Telegraph report that Arsenal are interested in bringing in the Gabon international as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez should he leave the club.
However, the report claims that Borrusia Dortmund are admirers of the Frenchman Olivier Giroud, and even tried to sign him over the summer.
Dortmund regard the Frenchman as a suitable replacement for Aubameyang, should he leave, so a player plus cash deal is on the cards.
Giroud has had to get used to life on the bench at the Emirates this season, as the arrival of £52million striker Alexandre Lacazette has decreased the ammount of first-team opportunities.
Football Insider verdict:
Olivier Giroud is one of the most dominating aerial centre forwards in the Premier League. His playing time has taken a massive hit this season, and he will not want to miss out on the World Cup this year, so a player plus cash deal seems logical for all parties. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a suitable replacement for Alexis Sanchez, as he brings surgical precision in his finishing, and is lightning fast. These qualitites are not shared by Giroud, so a change in philosophy may be required should the Frenchman move to Dortmund. Sanchez is almost a done deal, once that is done this propsed swap may take place.
