Arsenal plot swoop for unsettled Real Madrid man to replace Spain-bound ace - report

By Aramide Oladipo

Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid full-back Danilo in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Don Balon claims that the 25-year-old Brazilian international has failed to impress the Real Madrid hierarchy since his move from Portugal two years ago and it reports that Arsenal are keen on bringing the defender to the Emirates Stadium.

The report also suggests that the Gunners are looking to replace Hector Bellerin as the Spaniard looks to be heading to Barcelona in the summer.

Madrid signed Danilo from Portuguese giants Porto but his poor performances have seen him on the sidelines for the majority of his career at the Bernabéu with the likes of Marcelo and Dani Carvajal the preferred choices at fullback.

Danilo was part of the Real Madrid squad that won last year’s Champions League as they defeated local rivals Atletico Madrid on penalties.

Football Insider verdict

Danilo has failed to deliver in his short spell in La Liga and Arsenal should be looking for better quality if they are going to challenge for the Premier League next season. Despite currently playing for Real Madrid, the Brazilian fullback is not the sort of signing that would ease the tension between the Arsenal hierarchy and the fans. Having a first-class fullback is becoming one of the main necessities in modern day football so the Gunners should concentrate on keeping Hector Bellerin rather than trying to replace him with a player who doesn’t improve the squad.
