Celtic are interested in signing highly rated centre-back Rivaldo Coetzee from Ajax Cape Town, according to a report.
The Scotsman have claimed on their website that Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is returning to the possibility of adding a new centre-back to his squad this summer, resulting in the 20-year-old South Africa international falling on their radar.
Coetzee is currently plying his trade in his home country with Ajax Cape Town and has impressed after making his first team debut back in the 2013-14 campaign.
He has since gone on to play 90 times in total for the South African club and has even already been capped 16 times at senior international level despite his young age.
Celtic, meanwhile could be looking for a new centre-back with Nir Bitton having to fill in there on Friday evening for the 1-0 win over Partick Thistle due to injuries to both Dedryck Boyata and Erk Sviatchenko.
Football Insider verdict:
Little is known of Coetzee outside of South Africa right now, but Celtic have suffered blows at both the top end and defensive areas of the pitch and if the Hoops don’t bring in players swiftly they could seriously damage their chances of qualifying for the Champions League group stage. Bitton is far from good enough to line-up in a back four against Europe’s elite and after winning a domestic treble in the last campaign going far in the Champions League must now be the Hoops’ aim. But, without investments in both the defence and forward line Celtic could find it too tough once again.
In other Celtic transfer news, the Hoops must beat Premier League outfit to this Serie A powerhouse.
