Liverpool are interested in signing Werder Bremen attacker Max Kruse, according to a report.
German outlet Sport Bild claim that the Reds are eyeing the 29-year-old from the Bundesliga.
It is understood that the Merseyside club face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature.
The report details that Bremen would not stand in the way of Kruse moving to England if their valuation of £16million is met.
14-time capped Germany international Kruse usually plays in the number 10 role and was prolific form last season despite an injury setback.
The forward made 24 appearances across all competitions during the last campaign, scoring 15 goals and supplying seven assists in return.
He has never played outside of the German leagues, but could now be offered the chance to experience English football.
Football Insider verdict:
Kruse certainly looks good value for money at £16million in the current transfer market and proved his quality in front of goal last season. The Bundesliga ace would be a strong addition at Anfield and has the quality to make a real impact in English football. However, Klopp may have to offload a member of his squad before considering adding to the forward areas. They already have several options available to them including the likes of Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn. Liverpool need to assess how they can rotate their squad for the upcoming season and the return to Champions League football could indeed stretch their numbers.
