Ben Chilwell is ready to sign a new five-year contract with Leicester this week despite late interest from Liverpool, according to a report.
The Mail claim the Merseysiders are set to lose their battle to persuade the 19-year-old left-back to move to Anfield.
It is said that the finer details of Chilwell’s new Leicester contract are close to being finalised after Liverpool’s scouts watched him in action for Claudio Ranieri’s team against Celtic on Saturday.
Chilwell has one year left on his contract at the Premier League champions and they have been trying all summer to negotiate a new deal to keep him at the King Power Stadium.
The Sun claimed on Sunday that Liverpool were ready to submit an improved bid of £8million for Chilwell as well as hand him a five-year contract.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseysiders have already had an offer of £5million plus £2million in add-ons rejected by the Midlands club.
The left-back spent the first half of last season on loan at Huddersfield, under the management of Klopp’s former Borussia Dortmund colleague David Wagner.
The England Under-21 international made eight appearances for the Yorkshire side and it is reported that Wagner recommended the full-back to Klopp.
In other Liverpool transfer news, Italian side Fiorentina have made an approach for the club’s attacking midfielder.
