Liverpool are among three clubs interested in signing Ignacio Camacho from Malaga, according to a report.
Spanish publication AS claim the Reds are tracking the 26-year-old, who has a £15million release clause, alongside Monaco and Valencia.
It is understood that the Reds have been linked with the defensive midfielder over the past few months as Jurgen Klopp searches for a central midfielder.
As reported on Football Insider the Reds have also been linked with moves for midfield trio Piotr Zielinski, Hector Herrera and Ante Coric.
The one-time capped Spain international is by far the most experienced, but he only made 24 appearances for his La Liga side in the recently completed season scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The Reds are on the hunt for new midfield options as Klopp prepares to axe 11 players in his first summer at the club.
Included in the expected departures are midfield duo Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva and it is thought that Camacho would be the perfect replacement for the long serving Brazilian.
The experienced Spaniard has starred in 217 encounters across his career which include appearances in the Champions League and Europa League as he won the latter with Atletico Madrid in the 2009-10 season.
In other Liverpool news, Reds outcast Mario Balotelli could have his contract terminated with the club.
