European giants Bayern Munich have tabled a five-year offer for Bordeaux winger Malcom with Tottenham having identified the 20-year-old as a top target over January, according to a report.
German newspaper Bild claim on their website that the Bundesliga table toppers are keen on securing a long-term deal for the speed machine from the French side, with a potential £52.7million (€60million) transfer fee mooted in the report.
It is stated that Tottenham had the young prospect, who has been a first team regular for Bordeaux this season, as their top target during the January transfer window but failed to secure a deal, and it looks as though Bayern has stolen a march over Spurs in the hunt for his capture.
He has made 28 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring eight goals and chipping in with seven assists.
Football Insider verdict
This report will be a damning blow in Tottenham’s hopes of securing the 20-year-old’s services in the summer, and Bayern Munich are not the sort of side who do not get what they want often. If talks between the club and the player have begun and there is an offer on the table, then Spurs face a real fight of reestablishing the lead in the transfer hunt. Still, the £52million fee looks well out of what the Lilywhites will be willing to pay, and they may have to put their pursuit down as a miss, moving on to other targets when summer comes around.
