Newcastle United are set to hold imminent talks with Swiss youngster Yannick Toure over a potential bargain transfer deal from current club Young Boys, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that the Magpies are to open negotiations with the 17-year-old forward in the next 24 hours having been tracking his progress for months.
It is said that European giants Arsenal and Juventus have also been in the hunt for the Swiss under-17 international’s signing but the Magpies appear to have stolen a lead to secure the promising hot shot’s services.
The report states that Toure would be available for just a compensation fee, having not signed a new contract with Swiss top flight side Young Boys, where he has scored seven goals in 14 appearances for their under-21 side.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle have had very little success with youth prospects in recent years, and despite a couple of promising talents coming through the ranks, only Paul Dummett has stuck around in the senior squad. Toure is obviously young and unproven but his record at under-21 level seems promising, albeit at a different quality to what he would experience in England. His list of potential suitors also lends credit to the youngster’s current quality and future potential, so maybe the Magpies have got a gem on their hands. However, they really need to prioritise senior signings now, so if Toure does sign, do not expect a massive fanfare from the Toon Army.
