Newcastle are not looking to bring in any further players this summer after moves for Chelsea and Southampton left-back duo Kenedy and Matt Targett have broken down, according to a report.

The Sun have claimed via their live transfer deadline day blog that the Magpies’ summer business is now done, despite their attempts at bringing the two left sided flyers on loan falling flat.

The update means that Newcastle will be returning from the international break with Massadio Haidara as their only natural left-back following an injury to Paul Dummett, while Achraf Lazaar looks likely to leave before the 11.00pm deadline.

The north east giants have added just six players to their squad this summer following last season’s title-winning Championship campaign, while a number of players like Willy Caballero and Lucas Perez have reportedly turned them down.

There were also reports throughout the summer that successful manager Rafa Benitez was growing frustrated by the club’s inability to secure deals and failed efforts for Kenedy and Targett are likely to have left the Spaniard even more disappointed.

Football Insider verdict:

It has very much been a disappointing summer window for Newcastle in one that fans will have been hoping that the club would have made moves to seriously strengthen their side in an attempt to guarantee their Premier League survival. Both Huddersfield and Brighton have shown a lot more ambition than the Magpies following their own promotions last season and many of the Championship clubs have even outspent the north east giants this summer. Supporters will have been hoping that owner Mike Ashley would have learned from a previous lack of spending resulting in relegation would seen a change in the club’s stance, but it could now be another long and challenging season for Newcastle in the Premier League.
