Report: Title winners eye up transfer swoop for recent West Ham revelation
West Ham attacker Marko Arnautovic is being eyed up by reigning Premier League champions Chelsea for a potential transfer move this month, according to a report.
ESPN FC claim on their website that the Blues are keen to add a powerful target man to their ranks to compete with Alvaro Morata up front, and that the Austrian international is a possible target after his recent fine form.
The 28-year-old, who is naturally a winger, has been a revelation for the Hammers in the past couple of weeks, having been utilised in a centre forward’s role by manager David Moyes.
He has scored six goals and chipped in with five assists in his last eight appearances across all competitions, having not contributed to a single goal in his previous 11 league games since his £25million move from Stoke City in the summer.
Football Insider verdict
After Arnautovic’s recent form, only a big money offer should convince the Hammers to sell up, as he has rescued the club from a relegation battle almost single-handed. His performances as a centre forward have been impressive and his contribution to the forward line look nothing like the player who turned up in the opening matches of the season. Could they demand more than the £25million spent last summer? Quite possibly, especially if Chelsea are desperate to add him to their ranks. It would be a risky sale, but that money could be a huge boost to snapping up some new signings.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club are looking at signing a £30million-rated midfield maestro from a European giant.
