Tottenham attacker Erik Lamela is looking to reignite his career with a move back to Italy in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
Italian football website CalcioMercato claim that the 25-year-old winger is unhappy at the north London club after his injury woes and is keen on joining a new club to restart his time in football, despite having been adopted as a firm fans’ favourite at Spurs.
It is said that Italian giants Inter Milan are in the hunt for his signing and that the Argentinian is open to a move to the San Siro, having arrived in England from fellow Serie A side Roma back in 2013.
Lamela has made 138 appearances for Spurs in that time, but spent over a year out injured as a result of an ongoing hip injury which required specialist medical attention.
Football Insider verdict
While fans might not want to accept it, there is every chance that Lamela is indeed feeling as though he needs to get away from Tottenham for the good of his career. His lack of playing time will have been massively frustrating and he faces a serious fight to work his way back to being a regular starter, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and new arrival Lucas Moura all battling for a role. Is a move back to Italy a reality? It all depends on whether Mauricio Pochettino feels as though he can do without his fellow countryman, which would probably come down to the club’s transfer activity in summer. How much Inter are willing to pay will also determine whether a sale can be agreed, with Daniel Levy unlikely to accept anything but a premium for the 25-year-old.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club must swoop ahead of their rivals to secure the signing of a top flight commander.
