Tottenham must beat Euro giants in reported transfer hunt for top flight commander
Fierce rivals Tottenham and Arsenal have joined a transfer hunt involving European giants Barcelona and Real Madrid for Toulouse defender Issa Diop, but it must be Spurs who come out on top.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo claim on their website that there are a host of clubs keen on snapping up the 21-year-old centre back, having impressed in France’s top flight this season.
It is said that the two north London sides have both sent out scouts to monitor the performances of the Tolouse captain, and that the reports have been viewed positively by Mauricio Pochettino and Arsene Wenger.
The young commander has made 26 appearances for his side this season, scoring twice, while he has five caps for France’s under-21 side, and his displays have reportedly drawn the interest of some of the top sides in world football.
Both Tottenham and Arsenal could have reason to be seeking defensive reinforcements in the coming months, so it makes sense that they are keeping tabs on some of the top young talents in Europe.
Spurs may well be looking for a replacement for Toby Alderweireld as his contract situation rumbles on, but the signing of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez last summer could mean they opt against a move unless someone else departs.
However, with Foyth still acclimatising to English football, if the Belgian does decide to leave then they will be looking a little bare at the back in terms of experience.
Diop’s arrival would ensure that is not the case, plus, at 21, he has the entirety of his career ahead of him – although it means beating off some of the big boys in world football for his capture.
