Tottenham are leading the transfer hunt for Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer, according to a report.
Portuguese news outlet A Bola claim on their website that the Lilywhites are heading the hunt for the 23-year-old having shown imperious form across all competitions this season.
The central star, who has three caps for Portugal under his belt, has been a machine in front of goal with 13 goals in both domestic and European games, while he has also been pulling the strings for his side, chipping in with a further 16 assists for his teammates.
The feisty midfielder, who also has 10 yellow cards to his name, is said to have a big money release clause of £87million (€100million) in his contract, although the report claims that Sporting will accept a lower fee to secure his exit.
Football Insider verdict
Fernandes’ record this season is something to be admired, and it is no surprise the likes of Spurs are being linked with a move for his signing come the end of the season. He has proven himself in not only the Portuguese top flight but the Champions League and Europa League, and that experience makes him a very attractive target, as does his tender age of just 23. He has a seriously bright future ahead of him and Sporting will be demanding a premium fee to see him depart, although nowhere near the sensational release clause in his contract. Tottenham seem like the sort of club who would bring the very best out of Fernandes, and should have the money to secure his signing.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club must offload a senior mainstay to fund a big money swoop for a midfield hot shot.
