Report: West Ham table eight-figure bid for league leaders international speed machine
West Ham have tabled an offer of £10.5million (€12million) to secure the signing of Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues this summer, according to a report.
Turkish news outlet Takvim claim that the Hammers are the first side to make a move for the 23-cap Cape Verde international, who has been a mainstay for Galatasaray as they currently lead the Super Lig.
The speed machine who can operate on either flank, has scored seven goals and chipped in with a further nine assists in his 31 appearances across all competitions.
However, it is stated that Galatasaray are looking for a minimum fee of £15.8million (€18million), meaning that there is some difference between the Irons’ offer and the 27-year-old’s price tag.
Football Insider verdict
It appears as though West Ham have tried to steal a march on their rivals for Rodrigues’ signing but with over £5million between their initial offer and the Turkish side’s asking price, there is a lot of room for negotiation. Is he worth the demanded fee? Well he is hardly an international star, and is as yet unproven in any European top flight. On top of that, his age means any potential suitors are looking at a player who should be operating at his peak, and that he is only going to decline as the years roll on. Perhaps £12million would be a fair asking price, but of course Galatasaray want to make as much money from his sale as possible.
