Bristol City have joined Leeds United in the race to sign prolific Forest Green winger Reece Brown this summer, Football Insider can reveal.

The wide forward is out of contract at Forest Green next month but his suitors are keen to avoid going to a tribunal to determine his value as an in-demand 'free' agent.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club face strong competition from Championship rivals Bristol City for the signing of Brown, who scored 11 goals and providing 15 assists to help the unfancied club reach the League Two play-offs.

Lee Johnson's side have started discussions with Forest Green about what it would take to take the attacker to the west country in this window.

Brown was set to leave Forest Green even if they had overcome Tranmere Rovers in their semi-final and secured promotion to League One via the Wembley final next week.

He dropped down to the fourth tier of English football after leaving Birmingham City in the summer of 2017, making just 20 appearances for the club he joined at youth-team level.
