Revealed: Celtic fear Wolves will move for Postecoglou after new twist

Celtic fear Wolves will move for manager Ange Postecoglou if Julen Lopetegui is to quit the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

This site exclusively revealed on Monday (22 May) that the Spaniard, 56, may leave Molineux at the end of the season amid concerns over financial restrictions.

Celtic have therefore been alerted to the possibility of Wolves starting another manager hunt in the off-season.

Postecoglou was on the shortlist of the Midlands club in October 2022 after the early-season sacking of Bruno Lage.

It is believed that the Australian will likely be in the running for the job once again if Lopetegui decides to leave Wolves after just half a season in charge.

The former Real Madrid boss fears there will be little in the way of transfer funds this summer and wants assurances from club chiefs before committing to continuing in his role.

Wolves secured their Premier League safety at a canter this term despite being bottom of the table when Lopetegui arrived in November.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou, 57, has wrapped up back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic and is one win away from securing a famous domestic treble.

However, he is only on a one-year rolling contract at Parkhead and has so far failed to commit to a longer-term deal during his two-year tenure.

Postecoglou‘s superb knowledge of the Japanese and Asian markets has also been a factor in impressing Premier League clubs after bringing fan favourites like Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda to Parkhead.

Leeds United are interested in a summer move for the former Australia coach – but are still under real threat of relegation to the Championship ahead of the final day of the 2022-23 campaign (28 May).
