Jordan Rhodes has not given up hope of joining Celtic despite their deadline-day swoop being rebuffed by Sheffield Wednesday, Football Insider understands.
This site revealed how the Hoops expressed an interest in the Scotland international, 29, last Friday after failing in their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Christian Atsu but it was too late in the day.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Rhodes was attracted by the possibility of a move to the Glasgow giants and would also be “very keen” in the summer window.
Wednesday may be open to offers for the striker, who has been in and out of the team this season, making only 15 appearances in all competitions.
He was not in the squad for Saturday’s goalless draw against Millwall even though deadline-day attacker signings Connor Wickham and Josh Windass had not been registered in time to feature.
Rhodes’ future is up in the air as his £40,000-a-week contract at Hillsborough expires in the summer.
He turns 30 this week but there will an army of suitors for a centre-forward with a remarkable tally of 208 club goals in English senior football.
His 2019-20 haul amounts to just three goals but he has been prolific at Championship and League One level.
Rhodes made his name with Huddersfield Town in League One, netting an impressive 87 times in 148 appearances before making a big-money move to Blackburn in 2012.
He scored 84 times in 169 matches for the Championship outfit but has been far less prolific at Wednesday.
The 14-times Scotland international spent last season on loan at Norwich, scoring nine goals in all competitions as they won promotion to the Premier League.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that a player seemingly headed for Parkhead exit now set for huge role in nine-in-a-row bid after Lennon blown away.
