Leeds United are closing in on a stunning guaranteed £177million Premier League windall, Football Insider can reveal.

Results this week have tipped the automatic promotion race in Leeds' favour, with their Tuesday night win over Preston North End followed by draws 24 hours later for top-two rivals Norwich City and Sheffield United.

The three clubs are eight points clear of fourth-placed West Brom and are effectively fighting for the two places that will guarantee entry to the top flight and the riches that come with it.

Leeds have jumped to second after accumulating 79 points, one more that third-placed Sheffield United, with five matches of the Championship campaign remaining.

Figures from the Premier League show promoted clubs are guaranteed £94.7m from TV money next season even if they finish bottom of the 2019-20 league.

This is supplemented by parachute payments of £44.9m and £37.3m in the event of relegation in the first campaign, totalling £176.9m of nailed-on cash.

A third parachute payment would be due of £18.4m if the promoted club stay in the top flight for at least one campaign before being relegated.
