Revealed: Man United star Wout Weghorst told to find a new club - sources

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has told Wout Weghorst to find a new club as his loan spell reaches a conclusion, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils will not pursue a permanent move for the 30-year-old in the upcoming summer window.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Weghorst also doesn’t figure in the plans of Vincent Kompany at parent club Burnley.

He left Turf Moor on a loan basis last summer (2022), originally signing for Turkish giants Besiktas.

The Netherlands international notched nine goals and four assists in 18 games for the Super Lig side, before Man United swooped in to sign him in the January window.

According to Sky Sports (14 January), the Red Devils paid Burnley a fee of £2.5million in order to buy him out of his Besiktas loan.

Weghorst managed just two goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Ten Hag’s side.

He was initially a regular starter for Man United but eventually lost his place to the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

It is believed he has played his final game for the Old Trafford club after a substitute cameo in last week’s FA Cup final loss against Man City (3 June).

Man United are now ready to launch a move for a new striker in the summer window as they target a challenge for the Premier League title in the 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider revealed last month (30 May) that Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund features highly on the wanted list.

In other news, Aston Villa have concrete interest in Man United star.
