Aston Villa have a concrete interest in signing Man United defender Harry Maguire this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

He is expected to leave Old Trafford in the main window after falling out of favour under Erik ten Tag.

Villa enquired about Maguire in January and are still monitoring his situation with strong competition expected for the proven Premier League star's signature.

Tottenham and West Ham are also keen on the England international.

His wages, believed to be more than £170,000-a-week, are likely to be less of a problem for Villa than their two rivals.

Unai Emery's team are gearing up for another "huge" summer spree as first revealed by Football Insider on 8 April.

The Aston Villa boss will also be able to boost the funds available to him with player sales during the off-season and one of the names coming into the club could be the Man United defender.

Maguire's current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2025 and includes the option of a 12-month extension if the club wish to keep him.

But the 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since Ten Hag's arrival and played just 16 Premier League games this season and was only in the starting lineup for eight of those appearances.

The Dutch manager has preferred Raphael Varane as his main man at the back, despite Maguire being the club captain.
