Tottenham have made a last-ditch bid to hijack Louie Barry's transfer to Aston Villa, Football Insider has learned.

The Premier League giants have made a move to beat the Midlands club to the capture of the highly regarded Barcelona 16-year-old.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the club are confident an agreement is in place with Barry and they will finalise his signing in the coming days.

The Midlands outfit have agreed a £3million fee for the wonderkid as they look to complete the deal by the end of this week.

One major advantage Villa have over Tottenham is that the West Brom academy product is eager to return to the Midlands just six months after joining Barca.

Barry has made a good impression in Spain and his immediate return to England has raised eyebrows at his former club.

It is not seen as a coincidence that former West Brom academy manager Mark Harrison joined Aston Villa last September in an almost identical role.

There has been speculation the youngster's route abroad and back home was a carefully orchestrated one.

Barry left West Brom upset when he snubbed a long-term contract offer to quit last summer after 10 years to head to the Continent.
