Roberto Firmino playing for Liverpool future after 'massive' Jurgen Klopp reveal - pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is playing for his future this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper said the 30-year-old’s form will dictate whether he is offered a new deal.

Firmino has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (17 September), the Brazil international revealed Jurgen Klopp “never stops giving” him advice and has been “a massive father figure” for him.

Klopp is yet to settle on a preferred central striker this season despite the club spending big on Darwin Nunez in the summer.

Nunez, Firmino and Diogo Jota have all led the line for the Reds in the 2022-23 campaign.

When asked by Football Insider who will likely be first choice for the majority of the season, Robinson said: “Whoever hits a goalscoring run the quickest will keep their place in the side.

“The performances have not been great in the early part of the season. I don’t think Jurgen Klopp knows his best front three right now.

“Firmino is in the same position as Jota and Nunez.

“He is in the last 12 months of his contract. He has something to play for on a personal level as well as on a team level. It is a difficult one because he is not consistent enough to be playing week in, week out.

“I like his work rate and he links the play really well. But can he adapt to the new players around him? It will be interesting.”
