Paul Robinson has backed Renato Sanches to shine at Liverpool next season after it was revealed the midfielder is the most likely arrival at Anfield this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England number one compared the 23-year-old's first spell in England to that of ex-Man United winger Memphis Depay.

Sanches spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Swansea City but struggled to settle at the Welsh club.

Fabrizio Romano told Anfield Watch on July 12th that Sanches, who now plays for Ligue 1 champions Lille, is Liverpool's most likely signing in this window.

The Portugal international has two years remaining on his contract in France and is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the potential arrival of Sanches, Robinson said:

"Sanches struggled the first time he came to England but players mature and he is certainly an example of that.

"Look at Memphis Depay when he came to Manchester United, it was too soon. Now he has move to Barcelona and is one of the best forwards in the world. Manchester United would take him back tomorrow.

"Players can develop and just because Sanches struggled last time does not mean he cannot succeed this time.

"I am sure Sanches would be a success if he moved to Liverpool. I fully expect him to prove his doubters wrong if Liverpool do get him."
