Paul Robinson has slammed Celtic defender Nir Bitton for his "pathetic" sending off against FC Midtjylland.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said the 29-year-old "showed a lot of immaturity" for his reaction to Anders Dreyer's dive.

Bitton was handed a second yellow just before half-time when he poked Dreyer in the head following a coming together in the box between the pair.

Ange Postecolgou's side were leading at the time of Bitton's dismissal, with the game going on to finish 1-1 at Celtic Park.

Bitton is suspended for the second leg of the Champions League qualifier, which will take place on Wednesday 28th July.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his assessment of the sending off, Robinson said: "Pathetic.

"For a player of his experienced to do that is inexcusable. He is already on a booking. I cannot understand what was going through his head.

"A lot of talk has been about Vasilis Barkas' mistake costing the team but Bitton cost his team as well.

"You cannot excuse something like that. He showed a lot of immaturity. The bottom line is that it is unprofessional.

"To do it in such an important game as well, it's ridiculous."

Speaking to BBC after the draw, Postecoglou said: ""I don't think we will ever be as badly prepared as we were tonight and that's on me.

"To their credit, the players didn't look for excuses. They put in a solid shift and I'm just disappointed they didn't get the rewards for what I thought was an outstanding performance."
