Paul Robinson has claimed Paulo Gazzaniga is set to leave Tottenham because of Joe Hart.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number claimed Gazzaniga, 29, had "his nose put out of joint" when ex-manager Jose Mourinho signed  Hart, 34, on a free transfer.

Tottenham confirmed last week that Gazzaniga and Danny Rose will leave the club at the end of their contracts this month.

Gazzaniga did not play a single minute of football for Spurs in the 2020-21 campaign, despite proving an able deputy in the absence of Hugo Lloris in the season before.

A lack of game time in north London resulted in a loan move to Elche in February, where he kept two clean sheets in eight appearances.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Gazzaniga's departure, Robinson said: "I liked Gazzaniga, he never let Spurs down when they needed him.

"He was clearly not happy when Joe Hart came in though because he ended up being third-choice.

"Gazzaniga went from playing a huge chunk of the season before last, to not playing at all last season and he was barely even being named on the bench. I think his nose was put out of joint and I was not surprised at all when he jumped ship in January.

"There was an opportunity for him to leave in January and he took it straight away by all accounts.

"I am not surprised he is leaving now because he has had a good taste of first-team football and that is what he will want at his age now."
