“Joe has had a brilliant career and he is a very wealthy man because of it,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“However, his career has stalled over the last few years. This is a real opportunity to go and play week in, week out for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He can go there and challenge for trophies.
“It was a dream of mine to go to either of those clubs because as a footballer, when you look at Celtic Park, the fans, the global following of the club and the city of Glasgow, it’s a great opportunity.
“I understand every reason why Joe has taken the pay cut to join Celtic.”
