Robinson slaughters 'washed-up' Benitez and can't believe Everton have appointed him
Paul Robinson cannot believe Everton have hired the “washed up” Rafael Benitez as their new manager.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper slammed Everton’s board for what he called “the worst managerial appointment possible”.
The Toffees confirmed yesterday (30th June) that Benitez, 61, has become their new manager on a three-year deal.
The announcement has been highly divisive among Evertonians given the manager’s ties with Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
The club also confirmed that Duncan Ferguson and Alan Kelly will be part of Benitez’s backroom staff next season.
When asked for his thoughts on the Spaniard’s appointment, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:

“Benitez is the worst managerial appointment Everton could have possibly made. He is going to be hated by Liverpool fans and hated by Everton fans.
“He was on the washed up managers merry-go-round in China. His success was a long time ago, let’s not forget that.
“What is the Everton board thinking? Why would you appoint an ex-Liverpool manager who has not achieved anything significant recently?
“Benitez has got a huge job on his hands there.
“For the life of me, I cannot see how Benitez and Everton are a match. I have not spoken to one person who has been positive about the appointment.
“The only reason Newcastle fans liked him is because he fell out with Mike Ashley. This relationship will not last very long.”
