Tottenham are ready for a bidding war with Everton to land Wolves star Conor Coady this summer, Football Insider understands.

The centre-back, 28, was discussed by Nuno Espirito Santo as a priority target during talks with Spurs before he was appointed on Wednesday night.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that the club are expecting strong competition from Everton for Coady during the window.

Both clubs are in the market for at least one senior centre-back this summer and, in Spurs' case, at least two are likely to arrive.

New Everton boss Rafael Benitez is also a big admirer of Coady, who is currently with England at the Euros.

The Liverpool academy product has strong Merseyside connections, while new Spurs boss Nuno moulded him into one of the outstanding defensive leaders in the Premier League during his four seasons at Wolves.

Other factors will come into play, including Wolves' asking price and the ability of both clubs to meet it.

As first revealed by Football Insider in March, the Midlands club are set to offload some of their leading stars this summer and Coady is regarded as one capable of securing a massive fee.

Nuno regarded the centre-back as his "lieutenant" at Wolves and wants him for a similar leadership role at Tottenham.

Coady missed just one Premier League game in three seasons under the Portugese at Wolves.

Coady is currently with England at the Euros after being selected as one of the senior centre-backs.

John Stones and Harry Maguire have emerged as Gareth Southgate's first choice pairing, with Kyle Walker and Tyrone Mings also ahead of the Wolves man in the pecking order.
