Robinson tells 'phenomenal' Dele Alli to quit Tottenham after heartfelt confession

Dele Alli needs to leave Tottenham this summer to realise his “world-class potential”, according to Paul Robinson.

The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old would benefit from a new environment with new voices.

Alli fell out of favour under the recently sacked Jose Mourinho and struggled for game time for the majority of the 2020-21 campaign.

Football Insider understands Spurs are planning to sell the attacking midfielder in the upcoming transfer window despite him starting their final five league games of the season.

Robinson believes the time has come for Alli to move on with a rebuild at Spurs on the horizon.

“Dele needs a fresh start,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs. “I think he needs a new challenge.

“He is still so young and people forget his age. He has been at Spurs a long time now and without a doubt it will have been the toughest year of his career. I think he needs new voices and new surroundings.

“A fresh start will bring out the best in him I think. We saw flashes of brilliance from him this season. I think he is a phenomenal talent, I really do.

“Every time he was given an opportunity this year he looked sharp. When he played in the cup sometimes he was the best player on the pitch. I cannot understand why Dele wasn’t used more to be honest.

“There may be an opportunity now with Spurs rebuilding for him to move on. He was an England regular a couple of years ago. Now he is not even close to the squad. The time has come for him to re-ignite his career.

“He is at the perfect age now to move. A move will help him realise his world-class potential. I know he can achieve it.”
