Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho was given a free ride at Tottenham and would have been sacked sooner were fans allowed inside the stadium.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 58-year-old’s dismissal earlier today.

Tottenham confirmed on Monday morning that Mourinho and his staff have been “relived of their duties”.

As revealed by Football Insider shortly after, Ryan Mason and Chris Powell have been placed in temporary charge of the first-team.

Robinson slammed Mourinho and claimed he got his tactics wrong this season.

“A lot of the Spurs fans will be delighted to hear Jose has gone,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“In all honesty, he has had a free ride because the fans have not been allowed in. If they were in there, I think the decision would have come sooner. They would have made their opinion heard.

“The walk down the tunnel after some games this season would have been very difficult for him.

“They have not performed well enough this season. Mourinho has got his tactics wrong on numerous occasions.

“The Spurs fans are very knowledgable and they would have let him know that. I think he has had a free ride for some time now.”

In other news, Campbell claims Tottenham would be pulling off a blinder if they appoint 62-year-old hailed by Lineker as amazing to replace Mourinho.
