Maurizio Sarri would be a “smart” choice to replace Jose Mourinho at Tottenham this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.
However, as a fan and former player of Arsenal, Campbell exclusively told Football Insider that he would rather see Mourinho remain in charge of the Lilywhites.
‘The Special One’ is coming under increased pressure in north London after a 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday left his side five points off fourth-placed West Ham with six games to remaining.
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Spurs could meet with former Chelsea, Juventus and Napoli boss Sarri, 62, next week to discuss taking over from Mourinho.
Sarri has been out of work since August after he was sacked by Juventus after just one year in charge.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the Italian potentially replacing Mourinho at the end of the season, Campbell said:
“I think Sarri would be a smart appointment if Mourinho was to leave or be told to leave in summer.
“Sarri knows the Premier League from his time at Chelsea and he did relatively well when he was here, they won the Europa League which is no easy feat, it could be a good move.
“As an Arsenal fan though, I want Spurs to keep Mourinho.”
Former Spurs striker Gary Lineker heaped praise on Sarri following his appointment at Chelsea in 2018.
The current BBC and BT Sport presenter wrote on his Twitter that Chelsea fans were ‘in for a treat’ shortly after his arrival was announced.
