Ruben Amorim could transform Rasmus Hojlund into his new Viktor Gyokeres at Man United, according to the club's former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected at the club, exclusively told Football Insider that the new boss will work closely with the 21-year-old to improve his game.

Instead, the newly-appointed boss will have to work with the players available to him at least until the summer, but has been backed to get the best out of them.

Brown explained the similarities between the two strikers, with Hojlund's strength and willingness to press and run in behind making him a perfect fit for the boss' system.

Despite his struggles under Erik ten Hag's management, Amorim has been tipped to bring the best out of the striker and to help him hit similar levels to those Gyokeres has shown.

In 55 appearances since joining United in 2023, the forward has scored 18 goals in 55 appearances, with plenty of room for improvement and development.

Gyokeres joined Amorim's Sporting CP side from Coventry in 2023 and has since become one of the most sought after strikers in Europe after scoring 66 goals in 68 appearances.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and development, insisted that Amorim will work closely with Hojlund to help transform his game in a similar fashion to what he did after Gyokeres' move from Coventry.

"Both of United's strikers have got a lot to prove," he told Football Insider.

"At the moment, Hojlund is the first-choice centre-forward for them.

"When you see Gyokeres play, he wants to put defenders under immediate pressure and he's willing to battle them and turn to run in behind.

"Hojlund is similar, he can put defenders under pressure, he can be physical and he can run in behind.

"But he's got to improve in all of those departments and more to reach that top level.

"He's improved since he arrived at United, but he's struggled to nail down that position.

"There's plenty of room for improvement there, but I'd expect Amorim to work with him because we've seen what he did with Gyokeres.

Man United

"He wasn't the finished article at Coventry, far from it in fact, but he flourished under the manager.

"His goals to game ratio and performance level is among the very best.

"If he can do a similar job on Hojlund, and he's got the qualities there if he can improve them, they may not need a new striker after all."
