Sam Johnstone: West Brom star tells friends he’s keen to join Tottenham - Sources

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has told friends he is keen to join Tottenham this summer, Football Insider understands.

The 29-year-old has been targeted by Spurs as they look to recruit cover and competition for longstanding number one Hugo Lloris.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Johnstone has let it be known to his inner circle that he wants to move to Tottenham even though he would initially be expected to understudy Lloris.

Johnstone is keen to join an ambitious Premier League club and believe he could eventually take over from the Frenchman.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (3 April) that Spurs have been scouting Johnstone ahead of the summer.

The club are not planning to convert Pierluigi Gollini’s loan into a permanent deal and Johnstone is available on a free transfer in a matter of months.

Gollini’s loan is believed to have an obligation to buy if he makes 20 first-team appearances this term but the shot-stopper is 10 short of that mark.

Proven in the Premier League, Johnstone is out of contract at The Hawthorns at the end of this June.

His experience and availability on a free appeal to Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici as they look to reshape the Spurs squad this summer.

Johnstone has kept 15 clean sheets in 36 Championship appearances this season.

The goalkeeper has been omitted from the Baggies’ last two matchday squads as his contract runs down.

In other news, an ex-Fifa official has claimed Conte may be set for private Premier League meeting after Tottenham controversy.
