Scott McKenna has been linked with a move to Celtic once again, ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Scotland international currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia as he continues his career away from the UK.

Celtic have been on the hunt for a new defender ready for the 2026-27 campaign. However, the links to McKenna have resulted in a mixed reaction from the fanbase.

With the defender set to hit 30 years old later this year, and his inconsistent record in recent seasons, this is perhaps not misplaced.

However, there are plenty of signs that suggest that McKenna would be a massive success at Celtic if brought in.

McKenna joined Dinamo Zagreb in the summer after Las Palmas’ relegation from La Liga.

In Croatia, the defender has become a massive hit, playing 27 matches in the league to date, scoring twice and picking up three assists.

As a result, Dinamo Zagreb are well on track to win the Croatian Football League, as they sit 10 points clear at the summit.

McKenna’s stats so far have been fantastic. According to Fotmob on 13 April, he is averaging 0.85 shots, a 90.1 per cent passing accuracy, a 100 per cent dribble success rate, a 64.1 duel success rate, 3.7 recoveries and is only dribbled past 0.04 times.

Celtic are among the clubs monitoring Scotland defender Scott McKenna, according to reports in Croatia.

And Dinamo are reportedly aware that Celtic, as well as clubs in England, have recently sent scouts to watch 29-year-old McKenna recently.

Therefore, not only is the Scotland international exceptional defensively, but he is also capable of taking the ball forward and having an impact up the other end of the pitch.

Hence, if Celtic go through with the deal, everything points towards McKenna being a success at the Hoops.

How many defenders are Celtic set to target in the summer transfer window?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that at least one centre-back is being targeted by Celtic ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Hoops’ hierarchy feels that the squad has been left weak in that area after some key injuries this season, and they are already planning to address that during the summer transfer window.

However, it remains to be seen if McKenna is the answer to their defence issues, or if Celtic will move on to other targets.

Given Zagreb’s high asking price, the Hoops may be forced to move on to other targets, as they look to finally fix their defensive issues.
