‘Sacked today’ - Hibernian fans are adamant over David Gray dismissal

Hibernian fans have demanded that David Gray be sacked after their 3-1 defeat to Hearts in the Edinburgh derby on Thursday.

The Leith side were easily beaten at Easter Road, with James Wilson, Laurent Mendy and Josh McPake all netting for the visitors.

Adam Mayor’s goal just after half-time gave Hibs hope of a comeback. However, Jack Iredale’s red card ended any hopes of a comeback.

As a result, Hibs fans are furious, with the loss being their fifth consecutive home defeat in the Scottish Premiership.

Supporters have now called for Gray to be sacked after Hearts won their third consecutive Edinburgh derby.

Hibs have had a mixed start to the new campaign, having won two and lost two of their opening four league games.

Hibs fans want David Gray sacked

Gray has regularly been under pressure at Hibs in recent years.

The Edinburgh side have struggled to push up the table and truly take on the Old Firm clubs. 

However, perhaps more damning is the fact that they have very clearly been overtaken by Hearts, who are consistently higher than them in the table, and have beaten them regularly in the derbies.

Now, the defeat at Easter Road on Thursday appears to be the final straw, with supporters running to X to call for Gray to be dismissed as Hibs manager after the latest loss.

Did Hibs deserve to lose to Hearts?

When examining the stats, Hibs were highly unlucky not to earn at least a point on Thursday.

The hosts had 17 shots, four of which were on target, a 1.70 xG, 32 touches in Hearts’ box, one big chance and seven corners.

In comparison, Hearts had 12 shots, five of which were on target, a 0.82 xG, 22 touches in Hibs’ box, zero big chances and eight corners.

Therefore, on another day, Hibs would likely have come away as the winners at Easter Road, with the club simply unable to put away their chances when they are presented to them.

With a trip to St Johnstone up next, it remains to be seen if the Edinburgh club are capable of bouncing back from such a defeat and push back into the top half of the Scottish Premiership.
