Rangers transfer decision gets seal of approval, they must ‘double down on their momentum’
Rangers have been in strong form in recent weeks under new manager Danny Rohl.
The Glasgow giants are back in the Scottish Premiership title race, but their goalless draw against Hibernian on Sunday (1 February) has harmed their chances of being crowned champions.
Rangers have been active in the transfer window, with Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen arriving through the door.
There has also been interest in some Ibrox stars, having turned down offers for Youssef Chermiti and Djeidi Gassama over the past few days.
It is understood Rangers rejected a £13million offer for Chermiti from Fenerbahce and a loan offer from Monaco for Gassama that included an obligation-to-buy clause worth more than £10m.
Why Rangers should keep hold of star duo
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Rangers are right to “double down” on their momentum after rejecting the offers for Chermiti and Gassama.
The attacking duo have been heavily involved since Rohl was appointed as Russell Martin’s replacement in October.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “If you look at it, they've got great momentum at the moment. The manager is winning a lot of games.
“They might just be looking at it and going, ‘The value of these players are not going down. We've got good momentum. Actually, we can win the league all of a sudden. Let's not disrupt it. We'll make all the decisions in the summer. We've got maybe a vacuum at the top anyway in terms of the senior positions. Let's just keep the momentum going and look at it in the summer’.
“I think that's most likely what's going on there, which I think is sensible. I think long term they do need to make more money from trading players, but I think right now the best thing to do is to double down on the momentum.”
How Rangers have responded to big-money offers
Football Insider revealed on Friday (30 January) Rangers are “doing everything they can” to keep Gassama after rejecting Monaco’s offer.
The 22-year-old joined the Scottish club for £2.2m last summer from Sheffield Wednesday, where he previously played under Rohl.
The winger has registered eight goals and three assists in 41 appearances since making the move to Ibrox.
Meanwhile, Chermiti has contributed four goals and two assists in 27 outings since joining Rangers from Everton last summer for an initial £8m, with the deal potentially rising to £10m in add-ons.
