Scottish pundit hails Postecoglou after 'shock' Bolingoli development at Celtic

Alan Hutton has admitted he was “shocked” to see Boli Bolingoli start for Celtic against Livingston on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender revealed he thought the 26-year-old was “dead and buried” at Parkhead.

Bolingoli was named among the starting XI for the first time since February 2020 in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland and quoted by the Glasgow Times, Ange Postecoglou explained he had given the left-back a chance after impressing in training.

It was the defender’s first Celtic appearance since August 2020.

He was cast out by the club after breaching Covid protocols last season and sent on loan to Basaksehir.

Hutton applauded Postecoglou for giving the defender a “clean slate” at Parkhead.

However, he admitted the reviews he had heard from Celtic fans had been less than complimentary.

“Genuinely, I was shocked,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I saw his name and I thought he was dead and buried. He’s obviously come back. I heard the manager speak about him after the game, he had been training really well, working hard.

“When a new manager comes in, everything is a clean slate. It seems like he’s a man of his word, he thinks he was ready and he put him in.

“I obviously only saw the highlights so I don’t know exactly how he got on through the whole game.

“Some of the comments from fans and that was it wasn’t good enough. I was definitely shocked when he was brought back in.”
