Scottish pundit suggests winner of Rangers v Celtic race for Henry after agent update

Alan Hutton has urged Rangers to beat Celtic to the signing of Leuven striker Thomas Henry.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender suggested the futures of Alfredo Morelos and Odsonne Edouard would determine the winner of the race.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (9th August), Rangers, Southampton and Watford are in the hunt to sign Thomas.

Henry’s agent has since exclusively told Football Insider clubs from all across Europe have made approaches for the 26-year-old.

Celtic are also understood to be in pursuit of the French hitman.

Henry signed a contract extension last January keeping him at Leuven until 2023.

Hutton stated that Thomas would be an ideal signing for Rangers.

He told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “I think we will have to wait and see what happens with the two clubs and their current striking options, like Morelos and Edouard.

“I think it’s important to be on the front foot and identify targets in advance.

“He’s a big, tall guy at six foot four. He scored a lot of goals last season and looks to be a confident guy in front of goal.

“This is the sort of player you want to bring into the club. He’s at a good age, can come in and improve the squad straight away.

“Hopefully he will lean towards Rangers. Even if you are the champions, it’s good to stay on your toes and continue to improve the squad year on year.”

Henry scored 21 goals in 33 games last season, with his representative reporting interest from all corners of Europe.
